Powder coating is a dry finishing process where polymer particles are positively charged and applied with a spray pistol to a negatively charged metal part. Afterwards, the coating is cured in an oven where it melts and creates a hard, dense surface. While the primary function of powder coating is aesthetic, it can also withstand harsh conditions when applied properly or additionally pre-treated (as in zinc phosphating). Powder paint delivers a good mix of aesthetics and corrosion resistance but can be a more costly alternative for small quantities.
